October Fall Colors in the Eastern Sierras

The first week in October is when my wife and I love to go up to the Sierras.  Days are usually warm and the nights are crisp. It is this time of year when the Aspens put on a spectacular show.  This year was a real treat as we also received an early snow.

"A few days ago I walked along the edge of the lake and was treated to the crunch and rustle of leaves with each step I made.  The acoustics of this season are different and all sounds, no matter how hushed, are as crisp as autumn air."

It seems as if the greens of the evergreens bring out the intensity of the the golds and oranges in the leaves of the Aspens.

Below, a whole hillside is ablaze in gold and orange.

The sound of the stream (in the photo below) caught my attention. In some areas sheltered from the cold, the colors are just beginning to show.

What a great time of year to walk among the trees as they shed their summer leaves.  Winter is coming soon in the Sierras.

Bill. These pictures made me homesick even though I have not lived in Colorado since 1942. Oops!! That dated me, didn't it. For many years after we moved here, my family used to go back to Colorado at least once a year, sometimes more often. I have wonderful and vivid memories of those trips. Maybe I need to start doing that again. Thanks for the memories and beautiful pictures.
